The Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce partners with the City of Aberdeen to provide marketing on behalf of the Aberdeen community. This is a win-win partnership. The City finances efforts through the BBB promotional fund, and the Chamber provides the rest - paid and volunteer staff that coordinate and facilitate all marketing, promotion, invoicing, sponsorships, etc. for the community.
The mission of the marketing committee is to deliver effective advertising and promotion for the Aberdeen community within a 100-mile radius of Aberdeen and focuses on the three targeted audiences listed below. Local - Promotes the positives of our community internally to local citizens and businesses;
Regional - Promotes Aberdeen as a regional center for services and shopping; and
National - Promotes to an external audience, focusing on professional and family relocation, career opportunities, and business recruitment, relocation and expansion.
The marketing team includes staff and board representatives from Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce, Absolutely! Aberdeen, The Aberdeen Convention & Visitor€s Bureau, Aberdeen Downtown Association, the Aberdeen Development Corporation, and the Parks and Recreation Department. Amy Blackstone of the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce coordinates efforts as a paid staff member of the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce and works to coordinate marketing efforts between entities listed to maximize resources, generate greater impact, and avoid duplication of efforts. The committee calls on marketing professionals as necessary for advise on concepts, timelines, costs, etc.
The committee coordinates and facilitates the following marketing efforts:
- Signage - Design and placement of Aberdeen city billboards, South and North Dakota interstate billboards, community facility signage, airport signage, etc.
- Print and Publications - Design and production of Official Guide to Aberdeen with the Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau, special event flyers, Aberdeen city and Brown County map, event and community brochures, etc.
- Website - Design and upkeep of community website - aberdeensd.com € and city information linked through the aberdeen-chamber.com website which includes all community information on demographics, business, shopping, recreation, healthcare, etc.
- Radio - Production and placement of local and regional commercials promoting special events, shopping, life is good, holidays in Aberdeen, relocation, etc.
- TV - Production and placement of local and regional Aberdeen commercials including Life is Good, Holiday, Events and Recreation, Relocation, etc.
- Social Media - Social marketing which includes postings of community information and events, photo, video, etc. on Twitter and Facebook.
